Must I Have Indemnity Insurance?
It is not a regulatory requirement for Individual Members to hold indemnity insurance.
Members who work in a solicitor’s firm will find that your company or firm will have indemnity insurance, as required under the Solicitors’ Indemnity Rules however if members are involved in an independent practice providing non-reserved legal activities, it is not compulsory to have indemnity insurance.
That stated our membership is strongly advised that they retain an appropriate indemnity policy. In the absence of such insurance you may become personally liable if a claim is made against you. Furthermore it would be considered as good practice for a member to have regard for professional indemnity insurance rules.
